Welcome to the Colwyn Victoria Pier Trust
Colwyn Victoria Pier Trust has been actively fighting to save Colwyn Bay's iconic pier for the last eight years.
During that time we have faced many hurdles from both Conwy County Borough Council and from a small section of Colwyn Bay's residents who want to see the pier demolished.
Previous attempts to secure funding to restore the pier have been delayed by legal issues relating to legal ownership of the pier.
In the early part of 2017 the legal ownership issue was resolved and ownership of the pier was passed to Conwy County Borough Council.
This new development brought an end to differences between the trust and the council and saw the start of a new working partnership to dismantle, store and restore the pier to its original state once funding for the project has been secured.
The Trust's Vision for The Pier
These are our plans for the restoration of Colwyn Bay's Victoria Pier.
This concept design will develop over time with changing views from ourselves and public consultation at a later date.
Our plan will utilise any parts of the original pier that we are able to salvage and put to other uses within the new project.
Any unusable metal work will be re-cycled to produce items for the new structure and any usable wood salvaged from the decking will be used in other areas where it is possible.
The newly transformed pier will be a popular attraction for the town of Colwyn Bay and play a major part in the regeneration of the town.
With the increased popularity of pier's up and down the UK we will see an increase in visitor numbers to the area which will greatly benefit the areas failing economy.

This will be a Multi Use facility for the town and will be of benefit to many groups and individuals.
These plans will develop and change over time with consultation from the general public.
Your input into what you would like to see included in the finished project is always welcome.

Share your memories of the pier and Colwyn Bay.
Minor Setback as Heritage Lottery Fund Announce That It Is No Longer Supporting Pier Projects.
Colwyn Victoria Pier Trust is constantly in need of funds to help us restore the towns pier.
We need people to come forward and share their memories on film to help us put together a video that will be used in our application for crowd funding. War memories, first meetings on the pier .. whatever your story .. we look forward to hearing them.
If you would like to share your memories with us and are willing to appear on camera, please contact us to arrange a time and date for you to call in to be interviewed.
The interviews will take place in our pier shop which is situated in Penrhyn Road in the heart of Colwyn Bay.
We are all greatly heartened by the support we continue to receive after the setback with the Heritage Lottery Fund last week. Garry Webb advised us on Facebook that the HLF should not be seen as a ‘magic bullet’ for the Pier project and that we should review our proposals, concentrating on ‘what is’
This is exactly what we have been doing. We have decided to push on and make our own application for Listed Building Consent to restore and secure the future of the Pier. We feel that much of the expertise and skills required to do this are present within the Trust board. It won’t be easy and will take time and dedication. We have already made a first step by going through Conwy County Borough Council’s latest application for dismantling to determine how best to ‘dovetail’ our proposals with theirs. Indeed we remain confident in our partnership with Conwy County Borough Council and of their continuing support.
If we had been allowed to proceed, our approach to HLF at this stage would have been only for funding to properly develop our present outline proposals. We will continue to seek funds for this work through a new crowd-funding site, applications to other bodies who could fund specific pieces of work within the development process, match funding, and of course our own events (which are receiving incredible support) and our shop on Penrhyn Road.
Colwyn Bay's 1940's Festival Brings in The Crowds
Colwyn Bay's annual 1940's festival was not only a popular event for the town, but was also a success for the pier trust and our pier shop in the heart of the annual festival.
Our vintage window display, put together by our clever volunteers, was successful in bringing many visitors into the shop over the two day event, ranging from many of the characters who were there as part of the festival, to many members of the public who traveled from near and afar.
The range of items on sale in the store .. including our own pier merchandise .. proved extremely popular and the weekend was a great boost to the trust's much needed funds.
When you are next in the town, why not pop in to see what we have on sale or to ask us questions on the latest developments relating to the pier.
Raising Funds Can Be Fun!
Our monthly Northern Soul & Tamla Motown evening at The Station pub in Colwyn Bay continues to grow in popularity with many of the die hard soul fans traveling from different parts of the country to keep the unique music sound alive.
Our collection of 5 Northern Soul DJ's all give up their time completely free of charge to help us raise funds for our cause whilst 'Keeping the Faith'.
The Northern Soul music scene in Wales is one of the biggest in the country and our regular monthly event is a popular addition to their local calendar of events.
Our Northern Soul & Tamla Motown night takes place on the 3rd Friday of every month.
Tickets for the events can be purchased from The Station Pub or you can pay on the door on the evening. Admission price is £5.00
Crowd funding as been an important part of many projects
of late and proved to be a very important part of the bid process to secure funding to restore Hastings Pier and many other successful projects up and down the UK.
As well as using this medium to approach commercial investors to get involved in our project, this is also a means by which you can get involved personally in a very important way and play your part in raising the much needed funds required to complete and maintain the towns pier.
If you have a business in and around Colwyn Bay then the increase in visitor numbers to the area that will result can only be of benefit to you and your business.
We would like to see more business owners getting involved to aid in the regeneration of the town.
